Funny about my class--everybody is very smart and capable, but some people just catch on more easily than others, you know?
Thanks! This has come easy to me, and I'm still a little uncomfortable with all the kudos. Not just you, but most of my friends, classmates, and teachers. I'm encouraged by my progress so far.
I've been a repressed artist most of my life, and so I've looked for the elements of style and composition in everything I do from writing, to programming, to managing people, to making food.
I think making that compositional connection is the biggest hurdle that people have in understanding the artist within themselves. It would be interesting to have a studio arts class that did not use traditional materials(e.g. clay, paint, drawing, fabric, etc) and would be focused exclusively on style, and composition. Something like found objects, shovels and dirt in the yard. I guess you'd call that horticulture art and design. The point I'm trying to make is that creativity is a way of thinking about everything. We all do it, but some people think it is something different when you are in the art classroom.
